2012-2013 NFL Playoff Predictions by Daniel “The Sports Hound” Trawick

The NFL playoffs are finally here after a surprising season resulting in 3 rookie QB’s leading their teams to the postseason. Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III and Russell Wilson led their respective franchises to the playoffs and may make a run. The Indianapolis Colts led by Luck are only 1 year removed from Peyton Manning and already two-stepping in the playoffs enduring an emotional season. RG3 led the Washington Redskins along with fellow rookie RB Alfred Morris and could be dangerous.
The first round opponent of the Redskins are the dangerous Seattle Seahawks led by Wilson, MarShawn Lynch and a scary defense look to win on the road. After the rookies you have the regular postseason bunch featuring the New England Patriots, Baltimore Ravens, Green Bay Packers and Atlanta Falcons. The biggest surprise was how dominant Peyton Manning has been with the Denver Broncos coming off of 4 neck surgeries.
Prior to the start of the regular season I made my Super Bowl predictions live on Sports Trap Radio, but for some reason I forgot to write an article. Silly me….but my picks can be verified by my partner Brandon Pemberton. I picked the Broncos led by Peyton and a stellar defense beating Aaron Rodgers’ Packers in the big game. I never wavered from my picks throughout the season and believe they still will meet when it’s all said and done.
There are quite a few story lines involved in this postseason starting with Ray Lewis possibly playing his last game at home in Baltimore with him retiring after the season. Staying with the Ravens, they haven’t been playing well since firing their OC (Cam Cameron) three quarters of the way through the season. Peyton will be in the playoffs and not wearing a Colts jersey. Matt Ryan and his Falcons have to get over the hump of winning a playoff game and taking his franchise to the next level. Finally, Adrian Peterson coming off the injury he sustained last season to come with a first down of breaking Eric Dickerson’s rushing record, leading the Vikes to the postseason.
6 Minnesota Vikings vs 3 Green Bay Packers = Green Bay Packers
The Vikings won an emotional must-win game last week against the Packers to get into the playoffs, but the Pack will make easy work of the Vikings at home.
5 Seattle Seahawks vs 4 Washington Redskins = Washington Redskins
Everyone is on the Seahawks bandwagon right now, but the Redskins have won 7 games in a row for a reason. The defense is stepping up at the right times and no one can stop Morris and RG3 on offense. I like the Redskins at home.
4 Washington Redskins vs 1 Atlanta Falcons = Atlanta Falcons
Matt Ryan finally gets the monkey off of his shoulder and wins a playoff game where he may be favored by more than a touchdown at home. RG3 and the Redskins magical season comes to an end.
3 Green Bay Packers vs 2 San Francisco 49ers = Green Bay Packers
Colin Kaepernick is not ready for the Packers defense in the postseason and I still feel that was a shaky move by Harbaugh. Rodgers gets his revenge after the 49ers embarrassed them at home early in the season.
3 Green Bay Packers vs 1 Atlanta Falcons = Green Bay Packers NFC Champions
The Falcons revert to “normal” playoff form and gets hammered at home by the Packers.
6 Cincinnati Bengals vs 3 Houston Texans = Cincinnati Bengals
In a rematch from last season, the Bengals get their revenge against a stumbling Texans team.
5 Indianapolis Colts vs 4 Baltimore Ravens = Indianapolis Colts
With all of the emotion of Ray Lewis out the way, the Colts have Luck on their side (corny cliche). In all seriousness the Colts are just a better overall team in my opinion at this point and pull off the upset over the Ravens on the road.
6 Cincinnati Bengals vs 1 Denver Broncos = Denver Broncos
Peyton and the Broncos sweep the floor with the Bengals at home in a lopsided affair.
5 Indianapolis Colts vs 2 New England Patriots = New England Patriots
It’s a repeat from the regular season as the Patriots throttle the Colts again in this rematch.
2 New England Patriots vs 1 Denver Broncos = Denver Broncos AFC Champions
Brady vs Manning yet again and with the defense Manning has this time around the Patriots won’t be able to score a lot on the Broncos. I expect a very close game, but Peyton pulls it out on his way to possibly another MVP and Super Bowl appearance.
Green Bay Packers vs Denver Broncos = Denver Broncos NFL Champions
In a high scoring affair both defenses seem to lose a step from the beating of the playoff battles. Peyton wins his 2nd Super Bowl and entrenches himself in the argument as best QB ever.
My official picks for the Wildcard round of the playoffs are visible for the world to see at Pick Factor.
