Lebron James scored 24 points, grabbed 9 rebounds, and dished 5 assists while Dwayne Wade scored 22 ppoints(15 in the 2nd half), leading the Miami Heat to a victory over the Dallas Mavericks in game one of the NBA Finals. The Heat held the Mavs to 37% shooting from the field, and there defensive rotations were very crisp leaving no shots uncontested. Both teams played pretty well on defense and Dallas held the Heat to 39% shooting, but Miami made 11-24 shots from the three point line which was a big factor in the win.
Dirk Nowitzki led Dallas with 27 points(7-18 fg, 12-12 ft), but Miami made him earn every point he scored difficult to come by. Nowitzki tore the tendon in his left hand trying to strip the ball from Chris Bosh at some point during the game and said he will be fine to play the rest of the series. The Dallas bench scored only 17 points during the game, 12 of them by Jason Terry and all of his points came in the first half of basketball. Shawn Merion added 16 points and pulled in 10 rebounds.
The Heat killed the Mavericks on the boards 46-36 , especially on the offensive end grabbing 16 offensive rebounds and Chris Bosh had 4 of his own(9 rebounds overall), to go along with his 19 points. Miami received solid productive minutes from their bench and Mario Chalmers led the way, with 12 points and he made 3-7 shots from three point land. Joel Anthony while , he didn’t score any points did well on the court holding Tyson Chandler to just 4 rebounds in 34 minutes of play.
Miami was able to hold on to their lead in the game due to the clutch play of Lebron James and Dwayne Wade late in the fourth quarter. Every time Dallas made a shot the Heat came right back with a set play for Lebron or Wade and they came through with big plays. With 1:36 left in the game the Mavs cut the lead down to 6 but Wade made two big plays dishing the ball to Bosh and James on consecutive possessions for dunks closing out the game.
In my opinion, if Dallas plans on having a chance to win this series they must win game two. Going down 2-0 is signing a death wish and would leave them in a place where they would have to win four out of the next five games. They need better play from the bench who was averaging 39 points per game in the playoffs coming into the series. And if you didn’t notice, Jason Terry scored all 12 of his points in the first half but went scoreless in the second half because Erik Spoelstra put Lebron James on him. Bottom line is if the bench of Dallas show up and Tyson Chandler plays 34 minutes and grabs 4 rebounds, the Mavericks will have no chance at winning this series.
