Derrick Williams PF/SF
20 years old Sophomore
6′ 8″ 248lbs.
2011 stats: 38 games 19.5 ppg, 8.3 rpg, 60% FG, and 57% 3pt FG(42-74)
Prediction: Should go either #1 or #2.
Strengths: Derrick Williams is an explosive, top of the line athlete. He showed off his game to the entire country during the 2011 NCAA Tournament and people were surprised that he was more then just a dunker. Williams has a nice face up game and the ability to put the ball on the floor against bigger players and the ability to post and shoot over smaller guys. He has really worked on his jumpshot and has range out to the college three point line. He is very active on the offensive boards as well. He is only 20 years old and has potential out of this world. The improvement from his freshman to sophomore year had NBA teams loving him all season.
Weaknesses: He is bit of a tweener, similar to Micheal Beasley was coming out. He is undersized as a traditional PF and it has yet to been seen if he can play the 3 in the NBA. Hopefully he won’t have the lack of work ethic Beasley has and his lack of interest in rebounding and defense.
