The Sixers played a hell of a frst half of basketball, but only lead 52-50 at the half. As I watched the game, you could just the Heat pacing themselves and you knew sooner or later they would take over the game. Dwayne Wade dominated the game, scoring 32 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, and dishing out 8 assists. Lebron James added 24 points and 15 rebounds of his own as the Heat killed the Sixers on the boards 50-34.
The Sixers were playing good initial defense, but they gave up too many second chances and when you play a team with the talent of the Heat, it will eventually kill you. The Heat grabbed 20 boards on the offensive end, which lead to obvious extra chances to score points. The Sixers just couldn’t get a stop when they needed it. Zydrunas Ilgauskas scored 10 points and grabbed 8 rebounds, all on the offensive end.
While Andre Iguodala(10 pts 3-10 from the field) continued to be exposed as nothing more then a good role player, Jrue Holiday(20pts, 8 asts, 2 to) had a good game, showing the potential and talent that landed him as the Gatorade High School Player of the year coming out of high school. Elton Brand had his best game of the playoffs scoring 21 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Lou Williams scored 15 pointss off the bench and Thaddeus Young was a no show scoring 4 points on 1-8 from the field.
While some people I have contact with through twitter, email, and facebook actually thought the Sixers had a chance to win the series, I barely had faith enough in them to win a game. Instead of letting my being a fan of the Sixers fog my view, I call it the way I see it. Yes the team started out 3-13 and they turned things around and had a great season for a team with their talent. But don’t let them making the playoffs as a 7 seed make you think they are going in the right direction, because they aren’t and the contracts of Elton Brand and Andre Iguodala will have this team stuck for the next 2-3 years.
If they win game 4 on Sunday it would mean nothing at this point, but I believe they will fight and lose another game down the stretch. I can’t even say I’m looking forward to the off season because its a big chance the NBA will be locked out and there won’t be any summer league and they will miss games during the regular season. The Draft is going to weak due to plenty of potential lottery picks returning to school because of the looming lockout. I don’t know what plans the Sixers have to improve this team, but it’s going to take a bit of skill and luck from Ed Stefanski(who’s proved he can’t get the job done) and Rod Thorn to get this team right.
