After four days filled with non-stop hoops action on four different networks, the NCAA took 3 days off and they resume tonight with 8 of the 16 teams remaining in action. There were plenty of upsets and shockers in the first two rounds, leaving most of America ripping up there brackets. I will give you my prediction of each game and why. I’ll leave it short and to the point. I’ll even give out a few winners against the spread as well.
3 UConn vs 2 San Deigo St.(-2)
This should be a great match up between to athletic teams who play different styles of basketball. Expect UConn and Kemba Walker to try to push the ball and make this into a up and down game, while even though the Aztecs are a very athletic team, they like the play in the half court and their half court defense is excellent. This line on this game started out as a pick em’ but the line has since went up to SDU as a 2 point favorite. i would stay away from the spread in this game. I like the Aztecs as a straight up winner.
2 Florida(-2 1/2) vs. 3 BYU
Last year in a first round double OT game, BYU guard Jimmer Fredette scored 37 points to lead the Cougars to victory over the Florida Gators. A year later they meet again this time in a sweet 16 match up that should be a high scoring affair. The BYU 2-3 zone will attempt to slow down the Gators multifaceted scoring attack, while Florida guards will have their hands full attempting to check Jimmer Fredette. Florida has the clear advantage in the paint and if they choose to dump the ball inside they should win this game. I like Florida as a straight up winner in a close one.
1 Duke(-9) vs. 5 Arizona
While Arizona forward Derrick Williams is a stud and a future draft pick, it’s a reason why Duke is a nine point favorite in this game. Duke guard Kyrie Irving returned and played in the first two games of the tourney and with a few days of practice and scrimmages, Irving should be ready to make the impact he was making before he went down with a toe injury in December. With Nolan Smith playing as well as he’s been playing and Irving back getting into the lane and setting guys like Seth Curry and Kyle Singler up for open threes, look for Duke to win and win big. Take Duke minus the nine points.
4 Wisconsin(-4 1/2) vs. 8 Butler
After upsetting the number one seed Pitt his past weekend in a game that the referee took into his own hands by calling a foul 90 feet from the basket, I think Butler’s run stops tonight against the Wisconsin Badgers. The Badgers are a sound defensive team, they don’t turn the ball over, and they don’t take bad shots. The Badgers give up only 58 points per game while scoring 68 themselves. I know the Butler bulldogs have Final Four and championship game experience from last season, but i believe Wisconsin is the better team adn their two best players(forward Jon Leuer and guard Jordan Taylor are better then Butler’s(guard Shelvin Mack and forward Matt Howard). I like the Badgers to win and cover the 4 1/2 points.
Enjoy the games tonight and I thank you for supporting me and what I do and my dream.
