Michael Vick played well in his first start since 2006, leading the Philadelphia Eagles to a 35-32 victory over the Detroit Lions. Vick was 21 of 34 for 284 yards passing and 2 TD’s to go along with another 37 yards on the ground.
LeSean McCoy, who rushed for 120 yards and three TD’s, gave the Eagles a 35-17 lead with 6:17 left in the 4th quarter after scoring on a 46 yard touchdown. DeSean Jackson also had a good game catching four passes for 135 yards and a 45 yard TD.
After the McCoy touchdown, it seemed as though the Birds had the game in the bag. But the Lions still had some fight in them, scoring two straight TD’s one a Jahvid Best(232 total yards 3 TD’s) 2yard run and then a 19 yard TD catch by Calvin Johnson(4 catches 50 yards),who also scored the two point conversation which brought to game to 35-32.
The Lions then attempted an onside kick which they recovered giving them the ball on their 43 yard line with 1:50 left on the game clock. The Lions Quarterback Shuan Hill(24-45 335 yds 2 TD’s 2 INT’s) attempted four straight passes, which were incomplete turning it over to the Eagles, who downed the ball to end the game.
Offense-A: Played extremely well today putting up 35 points against the Lions. They surprisingly mixed in the run today allowing Lesean McCoy to get off for 120 yards and 3 TD’s. The 34 passes to the 21 called running plays was better then expected coming from a Andy Reid coached team. Mike Vick did well throwing the ball from the pocket and improvising when needed be. He completed passes to eight different recievers and had a passer rating of 108. The O-line played better but still gave up 5 sacks and 11 hits on the QB.
Defense-C: Had an horrible time stopping the run in the first half, getting gashed again up the middle and between the tackles. It time that DT Mike Patterson be called to the carpet, he’s nothing but an below average player who gets dominated at the point of attack and gets no push up the middle against the pass. The linebackers played horrible today against the run and pass. Lions TE Brandon Pettigrew and RB Jahvid Best both had over 100 yards receiving in today’s game. The Defensive backs played well for the most part and rookie safety Nate Allen had a interception for the 2nd consecutive week. Rookie DE Brandon Graham recorded his first career sack and Juqua Parker added one as well giving him 3 in the first two games of the season.
Special Teams-A+: After last week’s debacle, the kick coverage units played very well staying in there lanes and making sound tackles.
Next Game: 9-26-10 at the Jacksonville Jaguars 4:05 pm on FOX. Andy Reid says QB Kevin Kolb will be in the starting lineup for this game. I’m hoping LB Stewart Bradley is ready also. If not the Jags will try to expose the Eagles up the middle against the run.
