After a week of hearing Lebron James’ name lead the headlines, Kobe Bryant once again proved why he’s the best player in the world. Going off for 21 points in the third quarter, along with Lamar Odom’s 19 points and 19 rebounds off the bench, the Lakers defeated the Phoenix Suns 128-107 in game 1 of the Western Conference Finals. Pau Gasol chipped in 21 points for the Lakers, who have won seven straight playoff games. The Suns came into the game leading all playoff teams in three point shooting (41.8%), shot 5-22 from the arc last night. Amare’ Stoudemire led the Suns with 23 points, but had only three rebounds in 35 minutes of play. Steve Nash had 13 points and 13 assists, but the Lakers points guards constantly forced him to play on defensive end of the court by taking him to the hole for layups or dishing off for assists. If the Lakers continue to get this kind of play from their X-factor Lamar Odom, I wouldn’t expect this series to go past five games. And by the way, a determined Kobe Bryant is a bad look for the rest of the remaining playoff teams.
