Jamie Moyer became the oldest pitcher in major league history to throw a shutout, as the Phillies defeated the Braves 7-0 tonight. Moyer, 47 years old allowed only two hits in nine innings while throwing 105 pitches, 71 for strikes. Before tonight, the oldest pitcher to throw a complete game shutout was Phil Niekro at age 46 for the Yankees in 1986 against the Toronto Blue Jays. Jayson Werth continued his hot streak hitting a three run home run for the Phils, who have won 4 straight and six out of their last seven. With solid pitching and their lethal lineup, the Phillies look like the best team in the National League early in the season.
